Nutrients
Why is this smoothie so healthy?
Berries are real cell protection wonders: they are full of antioxidants (e.g. anthocyanins), strengthen your immune system and aid digestion thanks to their fibre. Countless studies, such as a study conducted over 40 years with over 10,000 Norwegians, link berries and their numerous healthy ingredients with a lower risk of mortality, particularly in relation to cancer and strokes. Makes the smoothie taste twice, and three times as good! 🤤
Cocoa contains flavonoids, which support the heart and circulation, as well as magnesium, which is involved in muscle function, especially after training. I can no longer hide the fact that I’m a huge fan of cacao, at least since I founded Dein Kakao (self-promotion). Cacao makes you happy – especially raw cacao, and that’s not even a health claim; it’s a fact. Sometimes good things can be so simple. 🥰
If you add the pea protein powder* (self-promotion), you provide your body with high-quality, plant-based protein, ideal for building muscle or as a filling snack. You can easily vary the protein content of your smoothie with this – if you double the amount of protein powder to 40 g, your smoothie will already have 25 g per smoothie! That’s definitely something to be proud of! Your biceps will thank you! 💪🏼
Variations – personal touches welcome!
- You can change the berry base as you like: Blueberries make it a little milder, raspberries add sour freshness, and strawberries add more sweetness.
- Change the cocoa powder: “Haselnuss” from Dein Kakao* (self-promotion) conjures up a nutty flavour – completely different and wonderful! As soon as you use a different flavour, the smoothie tastes completely different!
- Instead of oat drink, almond or soy drink also tastes good. Or try a coconut drink for a tropical twist.
- For extra creaminess: add a spoonful of yoghurt, avocado or banana.
- For power: mix in a teaspoon of chia seeds or linseed – nutrient-rich and filling, as they provide even more fibre and valuable omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids!
As a smoothie, smoothie bowl or frozen as a popsicle
I love how simple and flexible this smoothie is – because it surprises you every time. If you change just one ingredient, it tastes completely different. You hardly need anything, mix in whatever appeals to you – and voilà: a healthy, energising start to the day or post-workout snack! And because it’s so versatile, it never gets boring.
Especially on hot summer days, I can hardly get anything down, so the berry and cocoa smoothie is just what I need. It’s also great as a bowl base if you want to top it with some muesli in the morning! Or if you’ve made too much (is that even possible? 🤔), you can simply tip it into ice cream moulds and create a wonderfully simple and healthy summer ice cream! 🍦
